“Now is no time to Think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.” The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway
El uso de las cosas (or The Use of Things in English) is a series of photographs shot by Pablo Réol in Mexico City between 2010 and 2019. He observes and shows us the terrible beauty of these “things”: quick auto body repairs, tape laminated posters, fasteners made of pieces of string, amateur decorations; or a street vendor wearing an advertising uniform. Pablo Réol looks at how man appropriates his environment, imagines practical solutions, hijacks the functions assigned to objects, bodies and public spaces. In short, some clues about life in a big city of the 21st century.
